Our Story

In 2022, our founder welcomed a beautiful baby into the world—only to discover hours later that the child had been born with a rare condition: imperforate anus. This congenital anomaly, which affects a child’s ability to pass stool due to the absence or malformation of the anal opening, was something we had never heard of before. The shock was overwhelming, the fear paralyzing, and the path ahead completely uncertain.

What followed was a whirlwind of hospital visits, emergency surgery, and endless questions with very few answers. We were thrown into a world of paediatric surgeons, ostomy bags, and specialized care that most families are unprepared for—both emotionally and financially. But through the tears and sleepless nights, we also experienced something extraordinary: the power of compassion, resilience, and the will to fight for a child’s future.

Amid the fear and confusion, there came a quiet moment of clarity—a still, steady voice deep within that whispered, "Be strong and courageous." It was in that moment that we knew: this journey had a purpose beyond our pain. As it is written in Deuteronomy 31:6:

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

That voice became our anchor and our call to action.

That experience sparked something powerful. We realized that many families in our country face this same battle, often in silence and without the means to get proper care. Some lack access to timely surgeries, while others face stigma, misinformation, or deep financial hardship. Too many children suffer in pain, isolation, or worse—because of a condition that, when properly treated, can allow a child to live a full, healthy life.

From that pain, a purpose was born. That purpose became the Kalev Child Care Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children born with imperforate anus and their families.

Our Mission

Our mission is to carry out campaigns to sensitize, provide counselling services, financial support, offer postpartum care for mothers, care for children and any other possible support to parents of children born with imperforate anus and any other condition.

Our Vision

Our Team

CEO/Director: Mrs. Shareen Nahurira Muhumuza

Welcome to Kalev Child Care Foundation.

My name is Shareen Nahurira, and I am the founder of Kalev Child Care Foundation, with support from my husband. KCCF is to bring hope, healing, and support to children born with imperforate anus and other congenital conditions, and to walk alongside their families through what can often be a confusing and overwhelming journey.

At Kalev, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to live a full and dignified life — regardless of the medical challenges they may face. We exist to bridge the gap between families and the care, information, and community they so desperately need.

Our journey began with a single story, a still voice, and a firm conviction inspired by the words in Deuteronomy 31:6:

"Be strong and courageous."

This verse has become the foundation of our courage, compassion, and commitment to every child and parent we serve.

In our work, we have encountered mothers — frightened, overwhelmed, and heartbroken — who are handed a diagnosis with no clear answers, no support, and no hope. Kalev stands with these mothers. We are here to hold their hands, to cry with them, to pray with them, and to help them find strength in the face of what seems impossible. Their resilience fuels our mission every single day.

Through medical support, advocacy, awareness campaigns, emotional and spiritual care, we are working to make sure no child or family faces this battle alone.
